Home page of Susanne Buiter
Welcome to my website. I am Susanne Buiter, a Dutch-born geoscientist with a strong interest in geodynamics and geophysics. Since Spring 2022, i have the honour of being the scientific director of GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam. I am also Professor in Tectonics and Geodynamics at RWTH Aachen University. Scientifically, i use a model-based approach in studies spanning from sedimentary structures at Earth's surface to subducted slabs in the upper mantle, with the common goal to understand the underlying physical processes. I am Executive Editor with the EGU Open Access journal Solid Earth and happy to answer any questions you may have about publishing in the journal.
Research interests
- The formation and evolution of rifted continental margins
- Scenarios of microcontinent formation
- Formation and inversion of sedimentary basins
- Subduction zone dynamics, terrane accretion and continental collision
- Wilson Cycle of subduction, collision and rifting
- Benchmarking of numerical and analogue models
- Development of 2D and 3D numerical modelling software SULEC
